麻豆破解版 Department of Music Hosts Four Distinguished Musicians for Trumpet Summit

Charles Schlueter, trumpeter for Boston Symphony for 25 years, teaches a masterclass at 麻豆破解版 on a previous visit.

Program Includes Free Masterclass and Concert on April 4

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.鈥擳he 麻豆破解版 Department of Music is hosting Trumpet Summit 2023 on Tuesday, April 4. A masterclass with three distinguished trumpeters will be held at 4 p.m., and a concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Both the masterclass and the concert are free and held in Dover Chapel.

The program includes 麻豆破解版 Associate Professor Tim Hudson, Boston Symphony Principal Trumpeter Charles Schlueter and Assistant Professor Alexander Freund from the School of Music at Georgia State University. Chee-Hang See, pianist with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, will provide accompaniment.

Hudson is a Yamaha Performing Artist, Summit Recording Artist, and a founding member and director of The Carolina Brass. He has been a member of professional orchestras in the United States and abroad under world-class conductors, including Lorin Maazel, Yoel Levi, Leonard Slatkin, Grant Llewellyn, Andrew Litton, James DePreist, Gerard Schwarz, Mariss Jansons, Gunther Schuller, Skitch Henderson and Enrique Batiz.

Schlueter performed with the Boston Symphony for 25 years and is one of the most recorded trumpet players in history. He has been on the 麻豆破解版 campus before to perform and work with students. Schlueter is also the founder of The Charles Schlueter Foundation, a non-profit organization 鈥渢o encourage communication among brass players and to advance the level of performance, teaching and literature associated with brass instruments.鈥

Freund is a founding member of the renowned brass quintet M5 Mexican Brass and since 2005 he has performed hundreds of concerts at international festivals and concert tours in five continents, but this is his first time to be at 麻豆破解版. He has been on the stage at the Kennedy Center, the Banff Summer Music Festival, the Cartagena International Music Festival in Colombia, the Sauerlandherbst in Germany, Italian Brass Week, and PopArt Berlin.

As an orchestral musician, he has performed all over Europe, Brazil, India, Algeria, Mexico, and the United States. Born in Germany, Freund took his first music classes with Bettina Fabiunke and Rainer Auerbach (Berlin State Opera). He has a master鈥檚 degree from the University of Arts in Berlin where he studied with Robert Platt and Konradin Groth (Berlin Philharmonic). He studied a post-degree with Peter Leiner (Radio Orchestra Saarbr眉cken) at the University Saar in Saarbr眉cken and a Doctoral Degree at McGill University in Montreal with Richard Stoelzel.

See is a prize-winning Singaporean pianist who has been called 鈥渁 cool and confident performer鈥 by the newspaper in Charleston, S.C. He has soloed with the Montevideo Philharmonic Orchestra in Uruguay, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra, Chamber Music Charleston, the Bela Bartok Orchestra in Italy, the Toa Payoh West Chinese Orchestra in Singapore and remains in high demand as a soloist, chamber and orchestra pianist.
